Our Previous Egg Provider Moved Away

If you have been coming to Chocolates and Tomatoes Farm for awhile, you will know that for the past few years we have partnered with Into the Woods Farm (Middletown, MD) to bring you local, free-range eggs. It was a great partnership and we all loved the eggs, but recently the owners relocated to Hawaii.

  • Who would we partner with next to get local, free-range eggs to use in our classes and sell at our on-farm market?

The Answer Came in a Learning Kitchen Class

Chef Mark was teaching a Learning Kitchen class and lamenting that we no longer had our local, free-range egg provider.

  • It was our lucky day! One of the class participants said they were raising chickens and had just the kind of eggs we were looking for.

  • She dropped off some samples for us to take a look.

  • We were sold immediately! (You can order here.)

When you open your carton, it is just as pretty inside! Jodi shared that she picks out her girls for their beauty and because their eggs give an array of colors. Yes, when you crack the eggs open, you will be delighted by the big golden egg yolks too!

Some fun facts that Jodi has shared about how she makes sure her girls have a healthy, safe, fun life:

  • They have free range in a half-acre fenced walnut grove. Layers live with retirees because Jodi loves her girls so much.

  • They receive locally bought, organic chicken feed, fresh water, and flax seeds.

    • The flax seeds are for the humans -- more Omega 3's in the eggs!

  • The girls are dewormed and checked for parasites at least once per year.

  • They are free-range, cage free, antibiotic-free and pesticide-free.
