Some of you regularly find us easily. Locals know that Hollow Road in Middletown, Maryland is a short-cut between Hwy 40-Alt (also known as Old National Pike, and in downtown Middletown, as Main street) and Hwy 40-West (also known as Baltimore National Pike, and when it gets into Frederick, as Patrick Street). But, for at least a few weeks in summer 2023, some folks will need an alternate way to find Chocolates and Tomatoes Farm, and this short-cut is not going to work. Neighbors, you may also find the information below helpful in planning your daily routines.

Directions to Chocolates and Tomatoes Farm When Hollow Road is "Closed", July 24, 2023
As we understand it, the road closure will start on Monday, July 24, 2023 and is likely to run for two weeks. They will be replacing a pipe related to Middletown's water supply that runs under, and cuts across Hollow Road. As best we understand, the cut will happen between Chocolates and Tomatoes Farm and Valley View Road. We are providing some alternate travel options to reach Chocolates and Tomatoes Farm during the Hollow Road closure (note that we don't know about any other road disruptions so this is our best guess using a map to guide us; see also map below):
Coming from Boonsboro, Foxfield, Downtown Middletown, the South, the East, or anywhere along HWY-40-ALT (Old National Pike), you won't experience any issues getting to Chocolates and Tomatoes Farm. A sign will say Hollow Road is closed, but you can still reach Chocolates and Tomatoes Farm from 40-ALT.
Coming from the North and Shookstown Road, you may need to change your route. Turn left on 40-West, right on Ridge Road. Take Ridge Road to 40-ALT and turn right. Turn Right on Hollow Road (at stoplight where you see gas stations and Aleko's). A sign will say Hollow Road is closed, but you can still reach Chocolates and Tomatoes Farm.
Coming from the West, especially Hagerstown and Myersville (and including Valley View) or driving from 40-West (Baltimore National Pike), you will likely need to change your normal route. You won't be able to reach Chocolates and Tomatoes Farm if you are turning right from 40-West onto Hollow Road OR right from Valley View. Alternate Options below:
Get to 40-ALT before Hollow Road: Take HWY-17 (Myersville Rd) or Old Hagerstown Rd all the way down to 40-ALT, turn left (go through downtown Middletown), turn left on Hollow Rd (stoplight with gas stations and Aleko's). A sign will say Hollow Road is closed, but you can still reach Chocolates and Tomatoes Farm.
From 40-West, pass Hollow Road and turn right on Ridge Road: You will see Ridge Road on the right shortly after you pass Shookstown Rd on the left (toward Gambrill's Park). Take a right on Ridge Road to 40-ALT and turn right. Turn Right on Hollow Road (at stoplight where you see gas stations and Aleko's). A sign will say Hollow Road is closed, but you can still reach Chocolates and Tomatoes Farm.
From HWY-70 East, take exit #48. This will take you past Chocolates and Tomatoes Farm and you will need to get onto HWY-40-ALT where West Patrick Street and HWY-40-ALT meet (head toward left instead of going straight). You will see Boscov's and Casa Rico on right just before intersection. If you miss this, turn left at Old Camp Road (CVS on left) and drive thru to HWY-40-ALT. Turn Right on Hollow Road (at stoplight where you see gas stations and Aleko's). A sign will say Hollow Road is closed, but you can still reach Chocolates and Tomatoes Farm.
