Watermelon and Cantaloupe are in Season: Melon Mania-Time!

This is the week at the Chocolates and Tomatoes Farm On-Farm Market (Saturday, 9am-1pm, 7957 Hollow Road, Middletown, MD 21769) when many of the fruits and vegetables that people most think about when they think of summer intersect!

  • I was reflecting with a friend of mine recently on how short the seasons are for most summer crops -- you don't actually get to enjoy all the summer food you love for the whole summer, and the things you think of going all together into one dish are hard to find fresh all at the same time.

  • This Saturday, August 2, at Chocolates and Tomatoes Farm will be your best bet for the perfect summer melding! We accept many forms of payment.

New this Week, Melons and More!

  • Corn -- white and yellow

  • More pepper varieties

  • More tomato varieties

  • Okra

  • Watermelon

Expected to Continue this Week

  • Cantaloupe, peaches, plums, blackberries (probably end of blackberries)

  • Carrots, celery, beets

  • Cucumbers, yellow squash, zucchini, eggplant

  • Green beans

  • Green onions, yellow onions, red onions, garlic, shallots

  • Red and white potatoes

  • Peppers

  • Tomatoes -- cherry, red slicer, various heirlooms

  • Salad mix, spinach

  • Plus eggs, bread, chocolate, pastries, honey

Gone

  • Gone for the Season: arugula, broccoli, cauliflower, collards, kale, kohlrabi, turnips

  • Gone for now, but may return: radishes

Yes, we will have other new fruits and veg continuing to come out throughout the rest of the summer season.

Take a class and get new ideas for cooking and baking, have fun in a relaxed atmosphere and take home recipes to do it again!
